Officials Blame Girl For Being Raped By Her Father - It Gets Worse

The practices of other cultures can always be pretty fascinating to learn about, but sometimes the things we learn cause us to seriously furrow our brow and have a hard time comprehending exactly what we just learned. That’s the scenario at play in this story from a village in India where the village elders sound like they are pulled from the pages of prehistoric times.

As the Daily Wire reports, a young girl estimated to be 13-years-old was brought before the elders to answer for her actions. The action in question? The girl was raped by her own father, who came home ridiculously drunk and proceeded to have his way with her. He muffled the girl’s cries with her hands, but his disgusting actions wouldn’t remain secret for very long.

Word began to make the rounds in the village, and both father and daughter were called before village elders. The father was whipped and fined, but it was made out as if it was somehow the innocent girl’s fault. Incredulously, she even went along with their reasoning.

“It did not hurt me, because they beat me very lightly. I asked them to beat me because I was at fault. The fault was I did not tell anyone about this at home. I told them my father just held my hand. That was my mistake,” she said.

The backward reasoning was not lost on all, and many villagers were outraged, including this unidentified commenter.

“They said it was the girl’s fault. That the father was drunk and he was not in his senses. I got angered at the whole thing. How could a girl invite such an act? The panch said, ‘You’re useless, you’re the culprit.’ She was crying,” he said.

That witness spoke up and brought the matter to the attention of the proper local authorities, and all members of the council - and the girl’s father - were hauled off to face charges.
