Officers Heckled by Workers in Restaurant, Then They See What's In Their Food
One officer says that law enforcement can be a thankless job these days, and he's not exaggerating. The Cleveland County, North Carolina officer relays a recent incident in which a couple of cops simply tried to grab some lunch.
The wife of one of the officers was outraged by the incident her husband relayed to her and posted about it on Facebook. According to her report, her husband and his partner were on duty and in full uniform. They tried to get lunch at Zaxby's restaurant.
As the officers stepped up to the counter they were taunted and heckled by the staff working in the kitchen. The cops ignored the employees and ordered their lunch.
"Then, as they sat down to eat their food, my husband realized [they] had put the hottest sauce possible on [his] wings - to the point where his food wasn't even fit to eat," the wife explains in the Facebook post.
News station WBTV reached out to the family to confirm the post was not a hoax. It was confirmed, though the family requested that their names not be released. Capt. Joel Shores of the Cleveland County police department was willing to speak about the incident, however.
"Years ago, this profession was respected, it was honored. Now to get ridiculed, to be a target, to possibly get shot at, for little pay... what’s the motivation to be a police officer other than do it because your heart’s in it to help the community?” Shores said.
Shores understands the communities concerns about cops, but he wishes people would understand that most officers are just trying to do an honest job. “We don’t want to shoot no one. We don’t want to pepper spray. We don’t want to taser, that’s not what we wake up to do. We wake up to protect,” he said.
A spokesperson for Zaxby's restaurant said, "It is our goal to always provide every guest with exceptional service." They are currently investigating the incident.
