Officer Shocked By What Two Kids, Crouching Next To His Cruiser Are Doing (Photo)

Every day when a police officer leaves his house, his or her family knows that they might not return. Though parents try to shield their children from all of the terrible things going on in the world, kids understand what’s going on.

The same goes for the children of law enforcement officers in the wake of racial tension and police shootings in America.

ABC News reports that a photo of children on their knees captioned "praying their father and all police officers return home safely," has touched the hearts of many around the country.

The photo was posted by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department three days after three officers were killed in Baton Rouge, prior to five officers who were shot dead in Dallas and two black men who were killed by police officers in Minnesota and Louisiana. The photo was shared more than 3,000 times and had more than 5,000 reactions in just 24 hours, according to ABC News.

“In nearly 30 years of law enforcement, I have never witnessed the types of brazen attacks we are seeing against officers," IMPD Police Chief Troy Riggs said in a statement in response to Baton Rouge. He asked that people report any perceived threats to law enforcement.
