Officer Shocked After Catching Teen Doing This To A Sleeping Homeless Man

A police officer at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, witnessed an act of kindness that he found moving. He snapped a picture of the incident and posted it on social media.

According to Officer Eric Gaines, he was on the job in an area known for having a high homeless population. Most people just tend to pass those on the street, turning a blind eye to the problem.

Gaines occasionally witnesses some acts of kindness. Fast food employees sometimes come out to bring hungry people food, and police officers sometimes offer them shoes.

The day in question, Gaines saw a teen walking past a homeless man that many residents bother. The man was sprawled out and sleeping on the sidewalk, and when the teen approached the cop thought he might have had cruel intentions. Instead, he was shocked to see the teen kneel down and pray over the homeless man.

“It was good to see a young black man, especially in this community, doing something positive,” Gaines said. “That’s why I took the picture. It was powerful on so many levels, and for it to be in my presence — it was crazy.”

Gaines posted the photo in hopes of making the young man a positive role model for his community. The teen was identified as 18-year-old Steven Watkins. He had gotten off the wrong stop and feels that God led him to the homeless man.
