Officer Finds Out Why Mother And Young Sons Are Selling On The Streets

Glendale Police Sergeant Jeff Turney was driving through a Glendale neighborhood, when he noticed a couple of boys selling goods at the edge of a busy road.

Two little boys were working the corner. One was just 14-months-old, and the other only 4-years-old. They were with their mother trying to make enough for rent and bills. Turney stopped to tell their mom, April Casey, that she couldn't have her kids on the street with the dangerous traffic.

He could have arrested or issued her a ticket. Yet, he couldn't bring himself to do so. The reason is because the single mother had her sons selling all of their toys, hoping it could help with the rent and bills.

When Turney found them, they had not made one sale. In addition, Turney found out that Casey suffers from frequent seizures and is unable to work. She has nobody to help her financially or with her boys, and as a last result, she thought to sell their toys to make some money.

Casey spoke with KCTV saying, “I told him I needed diapers. He said, ‘Why don’t we go down to the store and I’ll get you guys what you need.'” They went to the closest store where Turney not only purchased diapers, but filled the cart with food for the family. Turney remembers, “She didn’t buy anything but things for the kids. I practically had to force her back to the grocery section to get food for herself.”
