Just taking a moment to be kind and compassionate to others can change an entire person’s life. Deputy Matt Holman of the Greenville County Sheriff Office proved that the day he met Robert Morris.

Holman had stopped Morris who he hadn’t seen in the neighborhood before. After he searched Morris the two began to strike up a conversation, according to LIttle Things. Holman learned that Morris was living in a tent in the woods, but it got swept away with the flood. The two eventually walked together to a local church and Holman asked Morris to tell him about his life.

Morris explained that he lost both his mother and father. Once he lost his sister, he turned to drugs and alcohol and became addicted. His addiction ended up ruining his relationship with his living brother and sister and he became homeless.

Holman wanted to give Morris some hope that life can get better and gave him his own personal Bible. That conversation and act of kindness changed Morris’ life.

“He was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life,” Morris said of Holman.

Holman later found out that he inspired Morris to seek mental health counseling, quit drugs and alcohol and repair his relationship with his siblings who he now lives with.
