Non-Custodial Mother Arrested After Teens Take Off To Go Stay With Her

Non-amicable child custody situations can quickly fly down the wrong path and lead to trouble for all parties. According to KUTV, this situation has spun out of control and the mother finds herself facing charges.

Brian Wolferts was granted sole custody of his daughters after splitting with his wife Michelle, and the girls took up residence with their dad in Topeka, Kansas. The girls then took off from a situation they wanted no part of, as oldest daughter Brittany explains.

"It was physical when we were younger, and then once the courts started getting involved, he switched to mental and emotional abuse," she said.

The girls made their way to Utah to reunite with their mother, and the authorities were recently able to track them down. Michelle has been charged with several misdemeanor offenses, and the girls are headed back to live with their father.

Brittany, who moved out of the father’s home a few years back, continues to defend the actions of her 16- and 15-year-old sisters.

"If they don't feel safe around a certain parent, and they say they've been hurt by this parent their entire lives, I don't understand how people can say they're just brainwashed or they're just lying," Brittany said.
