NFL Player Has Unbelievable Response To Losing $100K Earring

If you’re going out to enjoy a little fun in the sun, it’s always a good idea to make sure you leave your valuables safely tucked away. Our latest example of why that’s a good idea comes courtesy of Julio Jones, star wide receiver for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Jones was recently out on Lake Lanier in Georgia having himself a fabulous time doing a little jet skiing. Except he forgot something.

As Bleacher Report shares, Jones was wearing an incredibly expensive earring, and it came loose while he was creating some memories. So how much are we talking? Try a $150,000 diamond earring on for size. Needless to say, Jones wants to get the gem back. He’s hired a dive team to make that happen, but it doesn’t sound too promising.

"It's down in crevasses and nooks and crannies," according to a salvage diver. "It's impossible - absolutely impossible."

While Jones is undoubtedly kicking himself right about now, he’s grounded enough to keep things in perspective.

"As long as I'm good, it's materialistic stuff," Jones said. "You can always get that kind of stuff back."

Many commenters on this story have not been able to remain as grounded, including this poster's contribution to the conversation.

“Just the most stupid act I have heard in a while. First a man wearing earings is funny enough, the fact that he is so vain as to buy real diamonds versus cubics is sad. No one cares if it is real, its the look that he must be going for,” shared one user.

There’s a lot to unpack there, but we’ll resist that urge. Having to walk around feeling inadequate and jealous is obviously a pretty big cross to bear. Other commenters were able to keep the story in perspective, and they didn’t feel the need to insult Jones either.

“The next sound you hear will be 100,000 people jumping into Lake Lanier,” shared one commenter.

That’s a little more like it. This is not a story that should be inspiring anger. From afar, it’s a lighthearted tale about an unfortunate incident involving a famous face. While it’s obviously pretty serious from the perspective of Jones, even he has demonstrated that he can keep things in perspective.

“Would hire divers to look for 150K as well. As for spending 150K on earrings, proportionately, that would be like me spending 150, so more power to you. You earned it. Enjoy it,” added another commenter.

We’ll echo that sentiment. While it can be easy to dismiss athletes as grossly overpaid, the reality is that they bring a unique skill set to the table that there’s a demand for. Few people would turn their noses up at being paid those sums if their skill sets were in as much of a demand.

It doesn’t sound like Jones will be getting this rock back, so we’ll hope it didn’t hold too much sentimental value. On a positive note, we can assume he’ll heed the advice about leaving the valuables at home when you head out to have fun in the sun.
