NFL Owner Won't Allow Athletes To Protest The National Anthem

There have been plenty of whispers about what’s going on behind the scenes for NFL teams as they deal with the wave of national anthem protests. According to the Washington Post, one player is providing some insight, and he confirmed one of the theories that has been making the rounds.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin recently sat down for an interview with HBO’s Bill Simmons, and he says that there are some team owners who aren’t too keen on the protests. He explains that some have even addressed their players directly on the matter.

“There’s been owners that have told their players to do specific things or to not do specific things … regarding the national anthem and the protests,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin even provided an example of a specific instance he heard through the grapevine.

“The one quote that I was informed of was, ‘You’re going to stand on the line with your hand on your heart and you’re going to sing the national anthem because this is my stage,’” he said.

Baldwin and the Seahawks engaged in their own form of protest before a recent game, but the players simply linked arms as opposed to kneeling or sitting while the anthem was playing.
