Nebraska Teenager Marrying 53-Year-Old Man She Met Online

Talk about a May – December Marriage… As strange as it may seem, we have a report out of Nebraska that a 19-year-old girl named Michaela Matson is engaged to marry a 53-year-old Canadian named William Maldera.

Matson says she is completely in love and knew Maldera was the one after their first video call.

Not surprisingly, the strong-willed teenager’s parents do not approve of her impending nuptials. In fact, the first time she told them about William, her parents confiscated her passport so she would not be able to visit him at his home in Alberta, Canada.

Since she was still living with her parents at the time, she didn’t have much choice when they also forced her to see a psychologist.

There is no question Michaela is in love with William: “The first time I saw William’s photo, I was thinking ‘Wow, he’s handsome’ and was attracted to him straight away,” she remarked.

She continued, saying to the interviewer: ”I liked his nose, it’s cute and crooked — because his mom broke it as a child — then he has the most gorgeous light brown eyes that are completely breath-taking.”

Matson then explains how she fell in love with her fiancé: “I didn’t know who he was at first, but he caught my eye and after we started talking…, gradually I realized I was falling for this man.”

A few months later, despite her parents’ wishes, Michaela made the 1,500-mile trip to Alberta to visit William.

Michaela noted that her parents were adamantly opposed to her having any kind of relationship with a man this old. She remarked: "Whenever I was texting him, my dad asked if I was talking to 'the piece of ****'”.

She also explained that she was forced to apply for a new passport to make the trip because her parents confiscated her current passport when she told them about her plans to go visit William in Canada.

However, love will conquer all, at least that’s what Michaela believes. She goes on to describe her reaction when the two star-crossed lovers first met: “But as soon as I saw him at the airport I dropped my luggage and ran, I was so excited and overwhelmed to finally meet face to face.”

The two decided to get engaged just a few weeks later, and say they are planning for a late summer wedding this coming August or September.

Michaela did admit that quite a few people give them funny looks when they’re out in public.

This very grownup 19-year-old says she just doesn’t let what other people think get under her skin: “We don’t expect people to know we are engaged, and … age gap relationships aren’t typical, we try not to let it bother us.”

Keeping a good sense of humor is another way to defuse any awkwardness: “I’ve been called his daughter quite a few times, but he proudly tells them she’s my fiancé, other times we laugh it off while they apologize.”
