NBA MVP Says 'No' to Nike Over Religion

Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors is the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the NBA. As a result, he has his pick of endorsements--including global brand Nike. Yet, things went downhill when Curry displayed interest in designing a shoe to convey his Christian faith. The brand said "no." So, Curry immediately backed out of the contract.

Instead, he went with Nike competitor Under Armor who was more than willing to let Curry do what he wants. According to Christian Post:

Curry, 26, used to have a deal with Nike but chose to connect with Under Armor so that he could blend his faith with his signature shoe. The Curry One is slated for a Feb. 13 release, and Curry has been promoting the sneaker with the tagline “charged by belief.”

Curry spoke about his idea to include the phrase in his first signature shoe for Under Armor.

“It represents a Bible verse I wear on my shoe,” Curry told the media, according to Rapzilla reports. “Philippians 4:13. It says ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ It’s also my mantra, how I get up for games and why I play the way I do.”

Many in the NBA wouldn't risk their paycheck for their faith, Curry is the opposite.
