Nanny Speaks Out About Disturbing Safety After Madeleine McCann Vanished

Madeleine McCann has become a household name after her tragic disappearance from a resort on 3 May, 2007.The 3-year-old girl vanished in suspicious circumstances after being left with her sister at a resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal, while her parents went out to dinner with friends at a restaurant in the neighborhood. After coming back home, Gerry went in to check on Madeleine at around 9:00pm and found everything to be fine. However, when his wife came up to the room several hours later, there was no trace of her daughter.

10 years later, Madeleine’s parents are still searching for their daughter, never giving up home that she might be discovered. Over the years, $16 million has been spent on the case and numerous police investigations have been launched every time new evidence is uncovered, making the disappearance of the little girl one of the most famous missing persons cases in the world. Mere weeks ago, new information was released to the press after a nanny who looked after the McCann children, described the harrowing conditions at the Portuguese resort.

The unnamed nanny minded Gerry and Kate’s children several times before the night of Madeleine’s disappearance. According to the Daily Mail, the nanny indicated that the local area around the resort was highly unsafe for employees, who were encouraged to wear rape whistles. Naturally, the horrific night of Madeleine’s disappearance has become imprinted in the nanny’s memories, describing how "[Kate] was pacing up and down. The worst possible thing had just happened to her. [...] She was crying, but almost in a catatonic state, and Gerry was very distressed. That's the one thing I really remember from him, looking under the cars. I can't forget that."

The nanny also highlighted that the initial responses of the Portuguese police was slow and sloppy, saying: “I think a lot of things should've happened differently. Unfortunately the effects were catastrophic.” As a result of Madeleine’s disappearance, the nanny is believed to have quit her job at the resort.

In regards to Madeleine’s fate, the nanny was quite pessimistic, saying: “I hope she is still alive. It's probably very naive, but the best case scenario of a very horrible situation, is that she was procured and taken for a rich person who didn't have children.”
