Family Hiring Nanny For $64K A Year With 1 Month Vacation - To Live In Haunted House

When you’re in the market for a nanny, it may take quite a while before you find the right fit. For this family in the UK, the greater problem at hand was how were they ever going to be able to sift through all the responses they received. So what was so special about this gig?

As the Telegraph shares, the family offered up room and board, as well as £50,000 a year to look after a five-year-old and a seven-year-old. We can certainly see why that would attract some heavy interest, but the family was overwhelmed with more than 3,000 responses.

A little closer examination of the listing reveals why so much curiosity was peaked.

“We have lived in our home for nearly 10 years. We were told it was 'haunted' when we bought it, but kept our minds open and decided to buy the house regardless. 5 nannies have left the role in the last year, each citing supernatural incidents as the reason, including strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving,” the listing reads in part. “This has obviously been a period of great upheaval for our children. We haven't personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we've been out of the house, but we're happy to pay above the asking rate, and feel it's important to be as up-front as possible to find the right person.”

Richard Conway is the CEO of the site on which the listing appeared, Childcare.co.uk, and he notes that he was quite taken aback at first.

“When we saw the advert we were stunned. Some of the guys at HQ were sceptical but after talking to the family and their previous employees we realised it was a genuine position. We have hundreds of thousands of providers on the site and we’re hoping that one of them will be able to help them,” he said.

Conway continued “We’ve had some weird and wonderful families find childcare providers through the site, however I think this is probably the most interesting story we’ve heard. The family has assured us that no harm has come to anyone living in the house, however the nanny will have to have a strong disposition.”

A strong disposition sounds like a bit of an understatement. While it’s reassuring that no physical harm has come to previous holders of the position, there must be some pretty traumatic stuff going on to have five of them leave the gig. That didn’t deter others from throwing their hat into the ring, and it sounds like the family’s search has come to a close.

“After receiving over 3000 messages, we now have what we hope is the perfect nanny! Thanks again to everyone who got in-touch. Sorry we couldn't respond to everyone personally,” the family wrote in an update.

We’re confident that someone has already beaten us to the punch, but this family has reality gold written all over it. You can color us less than shocked if they appear on the tube before too long.
