Mystery Of Missing Mom Finally Solved After More Than 10 Years

When one mother of three suddenly went missing, police began investigating and uncovered a shocking revelation. The mother of three had been living a double life, and her secrets finally came out.

Law enforcement felt that her secrets were behind her disappearance, but years of searching didn't turn up any answers — only more questions. Now, the mystery has finally been put to rest.

A hiker in western Colorado discovered what looked like human remains, and after testing, authorities have confirmed that they are the remains of Paige Birgfeld.

The woman was last seen in her Colorado neighborhood on June 30, 2007. During the search for the young mother, shocking revelations about her life were made, only deepening the mystery.

Birgfeld was a 34-year-old mom living in Grand Junction with her three children. She went to meet with her first husband, Ron Beigler, her childhood sweetheart who she had started dating again after being divorced from him for 10 years.

She was within five miles of her home, and was never seen again. The day after her disappearance, a car was found burning in a local parking lot. The car belonged to Birgfeld, but police could not recover any clues.

Police quickly suspected foul play and began searching for Birgfeld, who was known for being a very hands-on ‘soccer mom’ who was close to her family. Her brother, Dr. Craig Birgfeld, ran a plastic surgery practice in Seattle, but moved with his own family into his sister's home to care for her children until they found Birgfeld.

“I just remembered, you know, the little girl, Jess, going, 'So do you know what happened to my mom? Do you know where she is?' And I was like, 'What do I say?' So I said, 'Wherever she is, she wants to be with you right now,'" said Callie, Craig's wife.

"My daughter, if she had two broken legs, she'd crawl over--she'd crawl on her elbows to get to her children," said her father in tears in an interview.

A short time after launching the investigation, police made a startling discovery: Birgfeld was secretly working as a high-priced escort. Going by the pseudonym 'Carrie', she advertised her services on the internet.

"I for one was shocked," said D.A. Pete Hautzinger. "I've been a prosecutor for 20 years and this is the first time I've encountered somebody from that socio-economic level and that kind of family involvement to be involved in this business."

At first, Beigler was the prime suspect in Birgfeld's disappearance, but focus shifted due to this new lead. This led police to Lester Ralph Jones, a 65-year-old client, and the last person Birgfeld spoke to before she vanished.

Phone records pinpointed about where the young mother was at the time she disappeared, and her car was later found close to where Jones worked.

At first, Jones denied meeting with Birgfeld, but he later admitted he paid for a massage. He said he lied initially to prevent his wife from finding out that he was seeing a prostitute.

There was no physical evidence linking Jones to the crime due to the lack of a body, and the first trial resulted in a mistrial.

Several other suspects were ruled out, including Birgfeld's ex-husband. In a second trial, Jones was found guilty and sentenced to life without parole.
