Mourning Family Reveals Reason Why Their 15-Year-Old Daughter Committed Suicide

A grieving family has written a heart-wrenching, tell-all obituary that revealed the terrible catalyst of the suicide of 15-year-old Sadie Riggs. The young girl, who only recently began her studies at Bedford Senior High School, in Bedford, Pennsylvania, hung herself after a group of fellow students bullied her and called her “everything in the book.”

The family of 15-year-old Sadie Riggs wrote a heart-breaking obituary, posted by Geisel Funeral Homes, that revealed how their “hearts [were] beyond broken,” after Sadie took her own life because she was severely bullied at school. “In an effort to debunk the rumors about Sadie’s death, we would like to share this information. Yes, Sadie took her own life, she hung herself,” the family revealed. The obituary went on to discuss the role of high school bullies in driving the young teen to take her own life, urging the group to change their behavior, reading “For the bullies involved, please know you were effective in making her [Sadie] feel worthless. That is all between you and God now, but please know that it is not too late to change.” While the family were devastated by the cause of Sadie’s death, they affirmed that they would never wish pain upon Sadie’s tormentors:

“To all the bullies out there, I just want you to know that as much as we despise your actions, never ever do we wish for you to feel the paralyzing pain that engulfs our bodies, a pain so severe that it makes the simple act of breathing difficult or the guilt that leaves us wondering what we could have done differently- or that struggle to remember the last time we spoke….”

Sadie, who lived with her aunt, Ms. Sarah Smith, was a member of the Solid Rock Fellowship Church and was known as a young girl who loved to draw, read, listen to music and play softball. Ms. Smith revealed that Sadie was highly ambitious and dreamed of becoming a firefighter or veterinarian after finishing high school. Sadie was also said to be struggling with depression however, she was taking medication and attending therapy sessions. However, after Sadie was cyberbullied through apps like SnapChat, Kik and Instagram, her suffering became too much for “a young soul to live with,” and she decided to take her own life.

In the wake of her death, her family decided that they would use the obituary to paint a candid picture of the reasons behind the young girl’s death, and hopefully bring the issue of cyberbullying and its negative implications to light within the Bedford community. Perhaps the tragic death of Sadie will truly reveal the impacts of bullying, especially in the school ground.

Finally, the heartbroken family left a final message for the sweet, young girl, stating, “Sadie, it was a privilege to have you in our lives and we will always love you. May you find peace in the arms of God…”. The family asked those who knew Sadie to “be kind to one another” in lieu of sending flowers.
