Mother's Troubling Encounter At Target Quickly Goes Viral (PHOTOS)

A woman in Oklahoma wrote a Facebook post that has gone viral. She suspects people were trying to kidnap her daughter for human sex trafficking, and her post has stirred up fear in many parents. Authorities are not so sure that her assessment of the situation was correct, and they're trying to remind people to remain calm.

Amanda Kalidy was with her daughter in a Target in Edmond, Oklahoma when she noticed they were being followed. "There was this little girl that was following us, and she kept asking my daughter for candy," she said. "I was asking her where her mom was."

She soon noticed that a 'strange' man was following close behind and seemed to be instructing the little girl. After Kalidy told the Target manager, the man and little girl left the store.

"The manager of the store was telling me what they do is they target places like Target," Kalidy said.

Michael Snowden, who works with the Bureau of Narcotics Human Trafficking Division in OK, doesn't think human trafficking was the case here. "We don't generally see people snatching children from their parents or women being abducted from a retail store of some sort," he said. "Human trafficking is much more subtle than that."

According to Snowden, he doesn't know of a single case of a child being kidnapped out of an Oklahoma retail store for trafficking. "We would never belittle someone's fear, okay, but diversion is really a frequent tactic when I'm trying to steal your purse, get your car keys," he concluded.

Kalidy says that she's learned a lesson from the incident. "It's very scary, and you have to stay alert," she tells other parents.
