Mother Who Murdered Daughter Gets A Dose Of Prison Justice

Kathryn Smith, a 23-year-old woman in the UK, has been found guilty of murder and cruelty charges against her 21-month-old daughter, Ayeeshia. According to the Mirror, as disturbing as the case sounds, it becomes even more disturbing due to the fact that child services knew the child was in a volatile situation.

Ayeeshia passed away back in 2014. The official cause was a tear to the heart, apparently caused by her mother stomping on her chest, and she showed extensive signs of physical abuse. Reports indicate that the child’s additional injuries were so substantial, it was as if the child was in a car crash or fell from a substantial height.

The baby’s stepfather, 22-year-old Matthew Rigby, was found guilty for causing or allowing the death to happen. The case has caused a major uproar due to the fact that the child’s home life was squarely on the radar of social services.

“It is extremely depressing to discover that one more vulnerable infant well known to children's services suffered fatal non-accidental injuries while she was subject to a child protection order,” said Claude Knights, CEO of Kidscape.
