Mother Receives Unexpected Service From Southwest During Emergency Situation

When you talk about airlines these days, many times the discussion revolves around being squeezed in like sardines and having to pay exorbitant fees for additional luggage or having to wait in annoyingly long security lines. Yet, recently, Southwest Airlines gave another story to share. On a flight ready for take-off from Chicago, IL to Columbus, OH, passenger Peggy Uhle was approached by a flight attendant who asked her to get off of the plane. Uhle said “I figured I was on the wrong plane. The gate agent told me to check in at the desk and when I did she told me to call my husband.”

Uhle learned from her husband that her son, who resides in Denver, Co, was in a coma after experiencing a head injury. Southwest also found out as Uhle added “The gate attendant already knew the situation and had booked me on a direct flight to Denver that was leaving in the next two hours. They offered a private waiting area, rerouted my luggage, allowed me to board first, and packed a lunch for when I got off the plane in Denver. My luggage was delivered to where I was staying, and I even received a call from Southwest asking how my son was doing.”

Southwest Airlines did not charge Uhle any additional fees or service charges for the flight either. Uhle went on to say, "the care that I was shown is second to none. We have always liked Southwest Airlines and now we can't say enough good things about them.” As for her son, she stated, "My son suffered a traumatic brain injury and continues to recover."
