Mother Panics When Toddler Goes Missing On Beach, Men See Kids Digging Holes - Realize What Has Happened

About 30 people scoured Newport Beach, CA looking for a 3-year-old wearing blue swimming trunks after his mother cried out for help. Rescuers, however, were horrified when the realized where he might be.

According to Independent Journal Review, the search party realized that the child was last seen in a spot where other children were digging holes, they began to dig. Eventually, they pulled the boy from a 3 foot sand hole that had collapsed on top of him.

The boy had turned grey and everyone assumed he was gone. Regardless, they administered CPR and the boy began to move within a minute. A few minutes after that, he was breathing on his own and calling out for his mother.

The boy was rushed to the hospital, where doctors said he would be OK.

“I’m not a hero,” said Jesse Martin, 35, who helped rescue the boy. “I have two kids of my own, it scares me. I just like to help out and help anyone we can. I knew (the mom) was frantic and scared. Kids have gotten away from me, I know the feeling. I just tried to jump in and help.”

Sand entrapment can be a danger to the public and experts say holes should be no deeper than one foot. They advise against digging tunnels and that children or adults shouldn’t climb into them.

“It is very easy to become entrapped,” he said. “Sand can weigh several hundred pounds and you don’t even realize it.”
