Mother Nearly Loses Her Entire Hand When Using Her New Blender

If you're a night owl you've probably spent a few late evenings watching the 'Magic Bullet' infomercials. The half-hour commercial makes it look like the little blender is all you need to create the makings of a catered party. For one woman this kitchen gadget didn't prove to be nearly as fun and convenient as the commercial would have you think. She has been badly injured and is lucky she didn't lose her hand.

Wendy Littlefield of Nevada purchased the latest incarnation of the Magic Bullet: the Nutribullet 900 blending machine. She couldn't wait to try out her new kitchen gadget so she unboxed it and threw in some canned tomatoes to give it a spin.

As the tomatoes were being pureed, the machine suddenly exploded. Without warning the razor-sharp blades flew out and shredded Littlefield's hand.

Littlefield had extensive injuries from the incident. Deep cuts resulted in severe nerve damage. It could have been worse, of course-- the blades could have clipped off a digit, sliced open her wrist, or flew at her face. However, Littlefield has been left with limited use of her hand and she's suing for damages.

The mom believes Homeland Housewares, the manufacturer of the Bullet line, was negligent in making and testing the device. She says it's 'unreasonably dangerous and defective when used for its intended use'.

Some believe that the mom is only milking it, though, and looking to cash in. It doesn’t help her case considering not only is she suing the company for compensation, pain, suffering, emotional distress and disfigurement, but her husband is suing as well. He claims he suffered 'mental anguish' from seeing his wife's injury, and their 'marital association has been altered'.

Littlefield's daughter has been her mother's spokesperson. “My mother’s life will never be the same, considering she will likely never be able to use her dominant hand again and she rides a roller coaster of never-ending pain and constant surgeries. This is a tragedy I hope no one else has to endure.”
