Mother Furious After Doctor’s Diagnosis Almost Costs Her Son His Life

Millions of people take people all across the globe regularly take ibuprofen for headache or back pain. There’s even a children’s version of the pain-killing drug that is sold in most drug stores. That said, it is important to remember Ibuprofen should be avoided for some conditions.

A mother named Hayley discovered this important fact after her son, Lewis, caught chicken pox earlier this year. The doctor she took Lewis to told her to give the boy Ibuprofen as a general purpose pain killer and anti-inflammatory.

Lewis began to get sicker shortly after she started giving him Ibuprofen. She eventually took Lewis to the hospital and found out he’d developed sepsis.

Fortunately, Lewis ended up recovering from this episode, but if Hayley hadn’t reacted quickly, her son may have even died. According to the latest medical advice, Ibuprofen should not be used with chicken pox in adults or children.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK recommends that Ibuprofen not be taken in cases of chicken pox, and the same warning is found on the product webpage of drug manufacturer’s website.

Given what happened to her and Lewis, Hayley has committed herself to raising awareness about Ibuprofen and chicken pox with other parents, and especially to educate medical professionals who are under-informed about this important contraindication.
