Mother Dies Trying To Save Her Car

Ashleigh Best and her family had no idea what would happen when the car repo man paid them a visit. Now, their lives have been changed forever.

The newly married mother-of-two had just moved her family in with her parents in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She and her husband were having difficulties keeping up with their bills and had fallen behind on payments for their Lincoln Navigator. They were starting to get back on their feet when repo man Drew showed up. Ashleigh couldn't stand seeing Drew back up to the SUV, preparing to hook it up and take it away.

A man then came out to ask him to wait while he called the bank to work something out. Drew agreed to wait. At that time, the 35-year-old mother decided to hop in the car and drive it away. Drew wasn't going to let her leave, so he chased her in his tow truck with his girlfriend in the passenger's seat. The 70-mile-per-hour chase went on for around 10-to-12 blocks before Ashleigh hit a tree and died upon impact.

Drew's girlfriend told the police that she “wondered why they were even chasing the female,” adding that “she was scared during the incident and she didn’t know if Kenneth had purposely ran the female off the roadway or not."

Drew's repo company also stated that they do not have a policy of chasing someone trying to escape in the car they are trying to retrieve. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” Lt. Britt Smith told KSL, “I’ve never, in my 15 years of law enforcement, I’ve never seen a repo agent be this aggressive."

Police determined that Drew was "reckless" and caused the mother's death. He was taken into custody on suspicion of manslaughter.
