Mother Can't Believe What Happened During Delivery - Doctors Just As Surprised

Doctors in Spain recently caught a delivery on film that shows a baby born in a special way. Only one in 80,000 births are like this one, and it gives us an incredible window into what life is like for a baby in the womb.

The baby was a 'caul baby,' which means he was born in an amniotic sac still intact. In the vast majority of births, the sac is broken before the mother delivers the baby. When a woman's 'water breaks,' it means the sac has broken and the amniotic fluids have rushed out. When the sac doesn't break naturally, doctors usually use an implement to puncture it before proceeding with the delivery.

In this rare birth, the baby was still inside the clear sac outside of the mother. While the little sac doesn't provide much room, you can see how comfortable and cozy a baby is inside. The baby is visible through the skin of the sac, floating in the amniotic fluid. He’s still getting his nutrients and oxygen from his mother's umbilical cord. You can see him moving his little fingers and even yawning.

The doctor tells the baby 'welcome' and then cuts the sac. The baby spills out into the doctor’s hands, looking a bit surprised and flustered at the sudden change, but he takes his first breath and is ready to take on life in the outside world.
