Mom Shopping for Groceries, Man Whispers Three Words That Couldn't Be More Ignorant

Breastfeeding vs. formula feeding is still a hot-button issue that can whip people up into a frenzy. No matter what you do, it seems someone is going to put you down for it. One mother doing her best was furious after a complete stranger at a grocery store made a comment to her.

Annie Muscato was shopping for formula for her newborn baby, Ellie Jo. The new mom had heard all the benefits of breastfeeding and had been on board with it, but it didn't seem to be working out for Ellie Jo. The baby seemed to be having trouble digesting her own mother's milk. After trying different things, it seemed the only thing that the baby was able to get down without issue was a dairy-free, allergen-free formula, so Muscato changed her plans and started bottle feeding.

When Muscato was in the store picking up some formula, a stranger walked up behind her and whispered into her ear: 'breast is best'. Muscato was positively shocked by the unsolicited advice.

Muscato didn't want to make a scene, but she couldn't shake her anger. She took to social media to vent about the issue, and wrote an open letter to the anonymous breastfeeding advocate.

I know that my baby began screaming after she ate. Writhing in pain. Inconsolable," wrote Muscato on Facebook. She explained that after trying the formula, "...the screaming lessened. And my baby started smiling. She started interacting. She started sleeping."

"What I know that you don’t is that breast ISN’T always best. I know happy, healthy baby is best. I know FED is best." Muscato added. "Sometimes what we plan for and what we want just doesn’t work out, but we are all here trying to do what’s best for our babies."

You would think in modern times, we’d all be happy that parents have many options to keep their babies happy and healthy. This is a personal family matter; no one should be criticized for what they choose.
