Mom Notices Blisters On Baby's Feet, Sent Into Rage After She Figures Out Who's Responsible

A baby was left with severe burns on the feet after 36-year-old Osmelda Ramon-Mendoza of Bladensburg, Maryland, put the child’s feet on a hot grill because “it was crying to much.” Ms. Ramos-Mendoza was a well-known, admired and well liked babysitter around the Bladensburg neighborhood. However, as more information about the babysitter’s violent tendencies and disciplining techniques has come to light, parents are becoming increasingly horrified by the actions of the former babysitter.

Detective Corporal Charles Earle, was contacted by the Children’s National Medical Center after staff at the hospital were concerned for the welfare of the young baby. Hospital staff reported severe burns to the bottom of the 6-month-old child’s feet. The parents of the child were devastated and mortified when called to the hospital and immediately informed police that Ms. Ramos-Mendoza had been supervising their child at the time of the incident.

Ms. Ramos-Mendoza was questioned by Police and firstly stated that the baby’s feet “may have rubbed across a tortilla” while she was cooking, causing the baby’s feet to blister and swell. After further investigation, Ms. Ramos-Mendoza told police that she actually just got sick of the baby crying and “out of frustration, [Ms. Ramos-Mendoza] placed the baby’s feet on the grill or pan she was cooking tortilla’s on.” When queried about other specifics of the case, the distressed Detective was reluctant to go into detail, saying: “Other seasoned police officers and investigators that have seen the pictures say it’s heart-wrenching.”

Ms. Ramos-Mendoza had been babysitting in the area for two years and this incident has rocked the community, particularly for former clients. The authorities have set up a hotline so other parents can report any abuse or suspicious injuries that their children may have suffered under the supervision of Ms. Ramos. While records did not list an attorney for Ms. Ramos-Mendoza, who was arrested and held without bond. Ms. Ramos-Mendoza has been charged with reckless endangerment of an infant, assault and child abuse.
