Mom Kills Kids- Then Things Take A Turn

A tragic story was released on Thursday about an SUV found in South Carolina containing the bodies of a mother and her two children. Police believe the deaths to have been a murder-suicide carried out by the mother.

According to reports, the mother may have killed a woman hours earlier who she believed to be her estranged husband's mistress. Before the deaths, she sent threatening messages to her soon-to-be ex-husband and his alleged girlfriend.

Jessica Edens, the mother who police suspect killed her 9-year-old son, Hayden King, and 5-year-old daughter, Harper Edens, before killing herself may have taken one more person with her before she went.

Police believe the body of another woman found dead in her car a couple of hours earlier was also killed with the same gun found at the scene of the murder-suicide.

Meredith Rahme, a 28-year-old woman who worked with Edens' husband, Ben, was found dead in the parking garage of Mr. Edens' apartment building. Rahme had reported that she had been receiving threatening messages from Jessica all week. Jessica had also been harassing the woman on social media, and posted her photo to the website 'homewrecker.com'.

Ben Edens says that he was worried about his wife's menacing messages, which he also received. He became so frightened that on Wednesday night, the night before the murders, he called police to do a wellness check on Harper, his and Jessica's daughter (Hayden had a different father).

When police arrived, they found the mother and children watching a movie with popcorn. Edens talked to the police and revealed that she and her ex-husband were embroiled in a bitter custody battle, and that she was planning to reveal that he'd been having an affair for over a year in court. Police did not feel her behavior was erratic or threatening.

They were satisfied and left.

The next day, police suspect that Edens either followed Rahme to her estranged husband's apartment building or waited there for her. Rahme arrived and was shot in the driver's seat of her car.

Two hours later, Edens' SUV was found on the side of the road. She, Hayden and Harper were all shot to death. A 9-mm gun was found in the SUV, and a 9 mm was what killed Rahme.

"There is some indication that about the time of the custody decision that she had some sense of inflicting violence either on the children or on herself or both. But that wasn't discovered until after she was discovered last night," said Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller.

Miller says the investigation is ongoing, but he urges people to be sensitive to the tragedy considering it touched the lives of several families. "It is important to remember there are fathers who have lost children to this senseless violence and our heart goes out to them," the chief added.

Hayden's elementary school principal released a statement: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic incident that took the life of one of our students. Hayden always had a smile for his teachers and friends.... He will be remembered as a happy, caring child who was full of joy. We were looking forward to serving his younger sister, Harper, in Kindergarten in August."
