Mom Comes Down With The Flu, Passes Away From Illness

An Arizona family has been left devastated after a mom to two children, aged 2 years and 6 months, passed away from a fatal case of the flu. The mom in question, 20-year-old Alani Murrieta, died several days after she began telling her friends about her “severe case of the flu.”

In an interview with Fox 10, Ms. Murrieta’s aunt spoke about the tragic course of events leading up to the young mother’s death. “Monday she was still feeling sick, so her sister took her to urgent care, her and her kids,” said Ms. Murrieta’s aunt, Stephanie Gonzales, who told Fox 10: “They diagnosed them with the flu, sent her home with flu meds.”

The following day, Ms. Murrieta’s mother drove her daughter to the hospital after her condition started to worsen dramatically. After being rushed to emergency care, doctors diagnosed Ms. Murrieta with an extreme case of pneumonia.

However, conventional treatments continued to fail and Ms. Murrieta’s condition became even more precarious. In a desperate attempt to save the young woman’s life, doctors placed her on a ventilator.

Doctors later realized that Ms. Murrieta had died after contracting a particularly aggressive strain of the flu, which later led to pneumonia.

Tragically, the mom of two didn’t recover and several days later, doctors recorded her death. Unsurprisingly, friends and family of Ms. Murrieta are shocked by the sudden and inexplicable death of the joyful mom.

“Never in a million years would we have thought we would have lost her that day like this,” Ms. Gonzales told the news outlet, telling Fox 10: “[Ms. Murrieta] had not received the flu shot this season.”

The heart-breaking death comes weeks after the Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued a statement about the danger of not having a flu shot. On the CDC’s website, the public health organization strongly recommends that anyone who is over the age of 6 months should take the time to get a flu shot.

According to data collected by the CDC, 24 states have reported localized cases of influenza activity. Another 4 states have issued official warnings after registering widespread influenza activity.

Ms. Gonzales has since created a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the young mom’s funeral. This is what the anguished aunt wrote on the fundraising page:

Alani (Joie) passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon from the flu that turned into pneumonia. Our family is devastated that she is gone. Alani was a beautiful loving mother just 20 years old with two young boys AJ 2 years old and JR 6 months old.

We are trying to keep strong and make the necessary arrangements but need help with funds as her passing was completely unexpected. Any donated amount will be appreciated. Thank you RIP JOIE 5/14/97-11/28/17 Alani left behind so many people that loved her!

Her Mother Christina Gonzales sisters Sandra Amador, Briana Gonzales and brother Andrew Murrieta. Her cousins Alissa Gonzales, Alexandria Gonzales , Christopher, Carlos and Adrianna and many more. We will all stay strong for her boys and always keep her memory alive

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe account has raised $19,600 of its goal of $20,000.
