Mom Arrested After Son Had A Shocking Number of Unnecessary Surgeries and Hospital Visits

A 34-year-old mother in Texas was arrested after it was discovered that she brought her 8-year-old son to hospitals hundreds of times for unnecessary visits. At her latest visit, doctors felt that the mother had medically abused the child and called police. Upon investigation, it's been found that the young boy had 13 unnecessary surgeries and was even in hospice care for a while.

Kaylene Bowen-Wright brought her son, Christopher, to Dallas hospital and told the emergency room staff that the young man had a seizure. When the medical staff examined the child, they noticed a 'general and full shake', but could find no evidence of an actual seizure. They began to suspect that the mother did something to cause his symptoms intentionally.

The hospital called Child Protective Services. "I am very concerned that mother has moved from exaggerating symptoms to inducing symptoms," wrote Dr. Suzanne Dakil wrote in a petition for CPS.

An investigation found that Bowen-Wright might have been faking medical conditions with Christopher since he was 11 days old. Over his eight years, he has been to doctors 323 times in Dallas and Houston. He's had a number of procedures done to him, including a feeding tube affixed to his small intestines. The procedure alone resulted in three blood infections, which put the child's life at risk.

Christopher has been on oxygen, has been in a wheelchair, and his mother even tried to get him on the list for a lung transplant.

Bowen-Wright launched a YouCaring fundraiser claiming her son had been diagnosed with a rare blood vessel disease at the age of two. The campaign raised more than $8,000.

At other times, Bowen-Wright has claimed her son had cancer.

After a doctor's examination, it was found that Christopher doesn't have any of the conditions or symptoms that his mother claims he has. He has been taken out of his mother's care, and has since begun to eat, breathe and live normally. He needs no feeding tubes, oxygens or IV. He's had no seizures or medical issues.

Ryan Crawford, Christopher's father, told the Star-Telegram that he's been trying to tell judges in Dallas County Family Court that his ex was faking his son's illnesses. He doesn't understand why doctors so frequently went along with the mother.

"How do you do 13 surgeries? How do you do it?" he asked. "How do you do 13 surgeries and not question the fifth surgery? The sixth surgery?"

Crawford dated Bowen-Wright briefly when she told him she was pregnant with his child. He said even when she was pregnant she would call him for many trips to the emergency room, claiming she was ill. At one point she claimed to have a 110 degree fever for a week straight. He realized early on that she was seeking attention.

“She was always saying Christopher was sick. Every single week. Every single month,” Crawford said. “She would always say, ‘Something’s wrong. He has this. He has that.’ “

He is trying to get custody of Christopher, as well as Bowen-Wright's other two children who have been placed in foster care.

"It’s horrible for my son, or any kid because obviously, my son is not the only one that has had to go through this type of torture," said Crawford.
