Mom and Iraq Vet Slam Kaepernick For Sitting During Anthem

Colin Kaepernick, the NFL player who refused to stand for the national anthem before a preseason game last week, does not have his mother’s support.

“There’s ways to make change w/o disrespecting & bringing shame to the very country & family who afforded you so many blessings,” the biological parent, Heidi Russo, tweeted last weekend. The Daily Mail pointed out that Rick and Teresa Kaepernick adopted the future San Francisco 49ers quarterback when he was just 6 weeks old.

After others on social media slammed Russo for not standing in solidarity with her son, she responded: “Hmmm, so if I disagree w/ someone, i.e. My 12 yr old, 6, 3, husband or Colin, that equates to not loving them? Ha! Seriously? #THATSCRAZY.”

Kaepernick, who said his protest was intended to raise awareness about the oppression of African Americans, also came under fire from a member of the U.S. military who was injured in Iraq. The airman, Brian Kolfage, wrote on his Facebook page: “Colin Kaepernick, I lost my legs and arm fighting in the US military, the same military that I took an oath to defend our nation and flag from enemies foreign and domestic. Next time I hear the national anthem I’ll be sure to stand for the both us since you feel that you’ve been oppressed.”

On Tuesday, Kolfage wrote: “If a cop shoots someone its usually because that person put that officer’s life in danger. And yet these criminals become saints to the black community; THAT'S THE PROBLEM! They are glorifying the thug life.”
