Michigan Begins 'Blue Lives Matter' Campaign

A billboard campaign, that started in Memphis, Tennessee, is now making its way to Michigan. The campaign is called "Blue Lives Matter," originally created by branding agency Tactical Magic, and intended to honor local police.

In addition, Baton Rouge, Louisiana advertising firm, Lamar Advertising, has joined in to donate more than 150 billboards nationwide. The billboards include the hashtags for the campaign--#thankublu.

It was on October 5 when the first Blue Lives Matter billboard was lit in Grand Rapids, Michigan, along I-98 west.

One critic, Darel Ross, co-executive director of LINC Community Revitalization Inc., said “I think in some aspects it’s shameful that the brand is being co-opted, but once again it was never meant to say ‘only black lives matter.'"

Cle Jackson, president of greater Grand Rapids' NAACP chapter, said, “All lives matter right? So that’s why we came to the table in a very I think civil and sober manner with local law enforcement here to say how can we actually work together to improve community police relations."

According to Lamar Advertising spokespersons, the billboard will be on display until Nov. 6.
