Men Try To Rob 67-Year-Old, Pay The Ultimate Price

It turns out the old saying “Never go into a gunfight with a knife” has a few corollaries. You could ask the would-be robber who recently tried to mug an elderly man with a toy pellet gun for his perspective, except he’s dead.

Based on the police report, a masked suspect tried to rob a 67-year old man who was walking in Cobbs Creek Park in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania last Wednesday. The robber was holding a pellet gun, which he pointed at the victim.

The older man courageously (foolishly?) struggled with the robber, who was in his 20s. The older man managed to pull out a .38-caliber handgun (he is licensed) and shot the robber in the face.

The robber was killed instantly. The shooter was taken to a hospital suffering from chest pains, but is recovering well, according to a story in the Delaware County Daily Times.

A police spokesperson noted that the shooter will probably not be charged for the shooting because the toy pellet gun appeared to be real, and he was clearly acting in self-defense.

The local Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood commented that the man “did a great job” defending himself in the incident.
