Meghan McCain On Recent Nuptials: 'Got Really Drunk On Whiskey'

When the big day finally arrives, it’s normal to have a huge sense of relief. For many, that sense of relief is complemented by an urge to enjoy it as much as possible.

In this case, the big day in question is the wedding day, which is often the result of an inordinate amount of meticulous planning. After going through all of the stress that such planning brings, it’s not too surprising to see both bride and groom let their proverbial hair down and let loose a bit.

As the Daily Mail shares, Meghan McCain tied the knot over the Thanksgiving break, and she returned to her post on ABC’s ‘The View’ to share some details on her big day.

“Me and now my husband. So weird to say, I have a husband Ben. We got married at our ranch in Sedona. It was real country,” she explained. “Like I wanted a western country wedding.”

McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) had already announced on social media that she had wed her fiance, Ben Domenech, but her co-hosts and the captive audience still wanted some details from the glowing newlywed.

“Sean Dickerson from Face the Nation married us,” she said, adding that “I pulled Clay Aiken out of retirement to sing. I got my dad to cry.”

Interesting stuff and sounds like a good time was had by all. Anything else that you would like to add, Meghan?

“I got very drunk on whiskey,” McCain added.

At least she was honest about that. McCain did the same while responding to a question from one of her co-hosts about the pros and cons of premarital relations.

“Actually, I'm a big proponent of test-driving a car before you buy it,” she replied.

There have been some rumblings about behind the scenes tension at The View since McCain joined the show, but she seemed awfully at ease discussing her big day with her colleagues, for what it’s worth.

“It was really fun. I think we overdo it with weddings in general and talking about it. I understand why people do it. It's a beautiful celebration of love. The meaningful experience of doing it in front of your friends and family,” McCain continued.

She further says “Before [President] Trump, before my dad's cancer. Before all these things. I feel like the first few year and half of our relationship was so fun. Just having a good time. The second's been really, really, really hard. And so there's something about celebrating love in a time of sadness as well that was probably more meaningful had it been an easier time.”

Our best to the newlyweds, and sincere wishes for many years of happiness together. Hopefully, that won’t involve too much getting really drunk on whiskey, but that’s for McCain and her hubby to navigate their way through. As for reports of behind the scenes drama, an ABC spokesperson has thrown cold water on that.

“This is ridiculous. We're very pleased that Meghan has joined our table of incredibly smart, accomplished and talented women,” the spokesperson said. "Their opinions frequently differ and that's exactly what the show is designed to do. She's been warmly welcomed by cast and crew alike. Let it go.”
