Mariah Carey Claims Her NYE Performance Was Sabotaged

If you were one of the handful of people who do not watch 'Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest', you might have missed the meltdown of the year. Minutes before the big ball dropped, sound engineers dropped a ball on Mariah Carey.

Carey was set to sing two songs just before ringing in Time Square, New York City. While Carey was ready to go, her earpiece wasn't. There was simply no way to cover the fact that care was lip synching.

No one doubts Mariah Carey's singing talent; however, more and more people are becoming disillusioned by A-list celebrities lip synching on stage. When the music began playing at the New Year's Eve special, Carey couldn't hear it and couldn't follow along. The crowds roaring at her were simply too loud.

Instead of lip synching, Carey just walked back and forth on stage for a few minutes, occasionally talking. "I'm trying to be a good sport about this," she said to the audience as you heard her record playing in the background.

Carey tried to muddle through the performance, but her obvious anger threw her so that even the dance moves with her background dancers looked awkward and clumsy. She finally turned her back on the audience and stomped off stage a full 10 minutes early.

Carey blames Dick Clark Productions for the fumble; she'd been having trouble with her ear piece all night. When she asked the production company about it, they assured her the earpiece would work while she was on stage.

The star has accused the executives of deliberately sabotaging her to stir up drama.

"To suggest that Dick Clark Productions, as producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd," said a spokesperson, who chalks it up to technical error.
