Man Offers Woman A Ride - She Then Tries To Kidnap His Daughter

A New Hampshire father was driving with his 1-year-old daughter early Saturday morning when he came across a young woman walking on the side of the road. He stopped to offer the lady a ride, and she got into his car. She then tried to kidnap his child, and a struggle ensued.

The 52-year-old man, who remains anonymous, thought he was doing Joanne Shaw a favor when he pulled over and offered a lift. The 25-year-old woman gladly accepted, but after getting into the car she told the man she was going to take his infant daughter.

She then proceeded to try and undo the straps of the child's car seat while the car was in motion.

“The male and Joanne did not know each other prior to this interaction. Joanne told the male she was going to take his daughter and made attempts to unbuckle the 1-year old, prompting a struggle to ensue,” read the police report.

The man pulled over, and Shaw had unbuckled the baby's restraints. “So when the car actually came to a stop, she was actually able to unbuckle the 21-month-old and exit the vehicle with the child,” said Rochester police Capt. Jason Thomas.

When the man stopped, Shaw then took his keys, broke them in half and threw them. She grabbed the baby girl and ran with her.

The man chased Shaw, and the two struggled. She punched the father in the face twice. He suffered only minor injuries, and managed to wrestle his daughter back from the alleged kidnapper. The baby girl, according to reports, was unharmed.

Police arrived and say Shaw resisted arrest, struggling with them when they tried to handcuff her. She was charged with resisting arrest, kidnapping, simple assault and criminal mischief.

Shaw is being held on $5,000 bail at the Strafford County House of Corrections, and will be arraigned Monday.

According to Shaw’s Facebook page, she’s the new mother of an 8-week-old child. She also has a GoFundMe account and is trying to raise money for her son’s medical bills. She claims he has a rare medical disorder. It’s unclear where her son is now, or if he’s actually sick.

Locals in New Hampshire say they saw Shaw trying to get rides that weekend. Comments came pouring in on the Rochester Police Facebook page.

“[T]his is the lady that came out in traffic to ask to drive my car! … she was buggin,” wrote one commenter.

“I drove right by her yesterday. She tried flagging me down, but didn’t stop. Thank god!” said one woman.

“Wth just saw her at rite aid 2 days ago she looked a little wacked she walked up to me an said u look beautiful could i borrow ur phone i handed it to her she looked at it then said oops I forgot her number have the phone back an said it’s been a day….
