Man Who Shoved 4-Year-Old Into Oven, Baked Her, Gets Shocking News

Convicted child murderer John Lane says he was too mentally disabled to file an appeal after his trail and is demanding that he be allowed a new trial. And a judge has agreed.

Lane, 66, was convicted of killing a 4-year-old girl by cooking her in an oven and was sent to prison for the crime about 30 years ago, the Mirror reports. Lane, of Maine, was convicted of the murder of Angela Palmer in 1985.

Lane told police he believed the girl was the devil and that she was trying to kill him.

When firefighters arrived to scene at the smoky apartment building, they found the girl’s body in the oven. A chair had been wedged under the hand of the oven so she couldn’t escape.

Lane, who is serving a life sentence, now says that his lawyer didn’t properly defend him and that his mental health records should have been used as evidence to refute statements from a psychiatrist that said Lane was aware that what he was doing was wrong.

The Attorney General's Office has 40 days to appeal the judge’s decision.
