Man Steals Puppy to Exchange for Crack

An adorable Yorkshire terrier puppy was stolen from a pet store and hidden in a person's sweater.

The puppy was used in a trade for crack cocaine. Thankfully, the $1,600, 2-pound puppy was found unharmed on Wednesday morning at a St. Petersburg animal hospital.

Video surveillance at All About Puppies shows a man placing the dog down his shirt and leaving. A tip led detectives to 38-year-old Wayne Junior Barfield, who was arrested Friday and charged with grand theft.

Barfield had traded the puppy for crack and cash in St. Petersburg. The person who bought the puppy brought it to the animal hospital because it got sick. That is when the clinic scanned the puppy's microchip.

Barfield is now being held on more than $5,000 bail.
