Man Stands On Corner For 3 Years - Then Neighbor Discovers Why

A woman drove by the same corner every day for three years, and every day she noticed the same man standing there in the exact same spot. Rain or shine, the man was always there. People in the town started buzzing about the man, saying someone should do something about him. The woman finally decided to take action.

Ginger Sprouse of Kemah, Texas pulled over her car, opened the window and began to talk to the young man. He had an amazing story for her that touched her heart. Victor Hubbard is homeless. The last time he saw his mother was on that corner. There he remains, in hopes that she'll come around again one day.

Sprouse and Hubbard started talking, and Victor explained his story to her. He suffers from mental illness and with his struggles he lost track of his family. She would stop and visit with him regularly, sitting on the corner talking to him, or bringing him out for coffee.

The woman felt compelled to help Victor. She started a Facebook page entitled, "This is Victor." She posted a photo of him and encouraged people to stop by and help him out if they could. People began dropping off things like blankets, clothes, food and other things that would help Victor get through the day.

Sprouse made appointments for Victor to get mental health services, and she drove him to his appointments. She brought him home to let him take a shower and wash his clothes. She invited him for dinner and to meet her family. She started a GoFundMe account for him.

"If you want to meet someone who is eternally optimistic, positive and humble go visit him," Ginger wrote. "He will out-bless you every time."

Hubbard's life began to drastically change. The people in the community got him a pre-paid phone so that he could be in touch with Sprouse, his doctors and family. The local firemen offered to administer Hubbard’s medication every day. Someone got him a bike, so he had wheels, and the GoFundMe money was enough to put Victor in a hotel on bad days.

Most importantly, Sprouse was able, with the help of the community, to track down an uncle, and eventually Hubbard's mother. He was thrilled to be in contact with her.

"I got to talk to her and I really feel like I accomplished something," Hubbard said.

The more Sprouse got to know Hubbard, the more impressed she became. He was a high school graduate. He loved to read, and had a very large vocabulary. He'd held down jobs in the restaurant industry before as a dish washer and table busser. Sprouse gave him a job at her restaurant, Art of the Meal, as a cook. "He is a smiling, happy addition to my team," she said. "I'm so proud."

Hubbard is humbled by Sprouse's help. "She came around and she kind of saved me," he told KHOU. "She helped me. It's like grace."
