Man Secretly Buys Lunch For Soldiers After They Refuse To Purchase Their Own Food

Sometimes the best part about doing a good deed is watching it go. Many people are reluctant to jump in and perform a random act of kindness for strangers, but when someone does it can be like a domino effect. One internet story reminds us of that. Though it's not clear where the story originated or even if it's true, it's got a lot of truth to it.

The story takes place on a plane. A man settled down planning to read a good book and take a nap when about 10 soldiers walked in and took their seats. One soldier sat right next to the man and the two began chatting.

"Where are you headed?" the man asked.

"Special training, then we're being deployed in Afghanistan," the soldier said.

The stewardess announced that lunch sacks were available for $5. One of the young soldiers murmured to his friend that $5 was expensive and they decided to wait and eat on the base. The man went up to buy a lunch sack and gave the stewardess $50. He asked her to distribute the sack lunches to the soldiers.

The stewardess brightened. "My son fought in Iraq; as the mother of a soldier I appreciate what you're doing so much."

After distributing sack lunches to the soldiers, the stewardess brought the generous man a first-class meal.

Other people got wind of the man's generosity and kept slipping him $25 in attempt to pay for half the meal. By the time the man got off the plane, he had $100.

He handed the money to the soldiers. "You still have a long way to go to get to your base, this should cover some sandwiches for dinner."

Even as the man headed home, he prayed for the soldiers. They were so appreciative, but it still seemed like such a small gesture in comparison. Either way, the man was happy to have gotten the good deed ball rolling that day.
