Man Rolls Right Through DUI Checkpoint By Showing Cops This Sign, Never Even Opens Window

Police set up DUI checkpoints to try and weed out potentially intoxicated drivers and to remind everyone not to drink and drive. Unfortunately, in recent years, there have been some confrontations between officers and drivers that may have violated the driver's constitutional rights. One guy has a solution.

When you stop at a DUI checkpoint and roll down your windows to talk to police, what happens next is all based on the officer's personal judgment. It doesn't matter if you've been drinking or doing drugs - an officer can say he smells drugs or alcohol, or he could say that your words were slurred. After that, you're at the mercy of the law because you're under suspicion.

If you don't want to take any risks, make a checkpoint flyer. YouTube user HONORYOUROATH shows going through a checkpoint with a checkpoint flyer.

"I remain silent," the top, attention-getting line says. "No searches."

"I want my lawyer," concludes the three initial statements. Below that is printed the legal rights of people in that state when stopped for DUIs.

The flyer is put into a large, clear plastic bag to protect it. In addition, the driver puts his license, registration and insurance card in the bag, arranging them so they're visible.

A string is tied to the top of the bag and it's hung out the window during the checkpoint stop. In the video, police read the information and wave the driver through. Once through the checkpoint, the driver cracks open the window and reels in the bag.

While some people might feel the police are just doing their jobs and worried about public safety, others feel the police unfairly target certain people. This is one option for avoiding a confrontation.
