Man Murders His Wife And Son - His Excuse Is Horrific

An Arizona man called police to report that he killed his wife and son. He said he tried to kill himself multiple times afterwards, but was unable to carry out the suicide. He now faces two counts of first-degree murder.

Eugene Maraventano, 64, called 911 to report the gruesome murders and suicide attempt to police. Maraventano's wife Janet had taken ill recently. After a cancer screening turned up negative, the husband became convinced that he passed on HIV to his wife. He believed he contracted it years earlier when he visited prostitutes.

Maraventano says he thought about buying a gun, but ultimately chose to stab her to death in bed. He says he's 'not a violent person' to investigators.

After his wife was dead, Maraventano killed their son, Bryan. He went down the hall and knocked on his son's door. When Bryan answered, his father stabbed him.

Maraventano said he killed Bryan because he 'plays video games all day, has no girlfriend, and must be handicap[ped] because he can't get a job.'

For four days, the bodies remained in the home as Maraventano attempted to kill himself. He attempted cutting his wrists, suffocating himself with a plastic bag, and he taped a knife to the wall and tried to push his chest into the blade. When nothing worked, he phoned 911 to report the murders and suicide attempt.

A suicide note was left for his older son, who does not live in the family home. Maraventano admits in it that he killed his wife and younger son.
