Man Keeps Coughing But Doesn’t Know Why - He Finally Knows What Was Causing It (Photos)

A man who had a nasty cough was trying to hock up a 'large phlegm ball.' Instead, he hocked up a nasty surprise: a bug.

Phil Lyndon, 52, went to the doctor about his cough. The doctor gave him some antibiotics and sent him home. The next morning, Lyndon tried to cough up some phlegm to spit out into the toilet.

“I then looked a little closer as I could see something brown in it and it was wriggling," said Lyndon. "I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and fished it out. It had stopped moving by this point and I took a picture of it on my iPad. When I zoomed into the image I could clearly see that it was a bug."

Lyndon was horrified and rushed straight back to the doctor. The doctor referred him to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

"They x-rayed my chest to check for any infestation which thank god was clear and took a blood test to check if there had been any changes due to the creature," explains Lyndon. "Then they took it away to be looked at by a bug expert."

The bug turned out to be a mayfly nymph that with a few missing body parts. Doctors believe he ingested it while sleeping.

Luckily, this type of bug is not parasitic. Lyndon might have a hard time sleeping for a while though.
