Man Gets Sentenced for Punching His Sister 40 Years Ago

Around 40 years ago, Patrick Ackroyd disagreed with his sister Anita Ackroyd over John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War is Over) record when they were teenagers in December 1975.

Patrick lost his temper and punched her in the face. It resulted in her losing her two front teeth, and she has had to wear a dental plate ever since. He has recently been sentenced.

Leeds Crown Court heard that their mother told them to lie about what happened, and Anita told the hospital that she had an accident.

Although when the police were investigating an unrelated and undisclosed matter, they found out the real story. Jon Gregg, prosecuting, said, "The defendant was interviewed in February 2012 and admitted punching his sister in the mouth and causing the injuries."

Ackroyd, of Tingley, Wakefield, West Yorkshire pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm. His attorney, Marcus Waite, said he deeply regretted what he had done. He has had no other convictions before or since the attack.

He was sentenced to two months in prison and suspended for one year.
