Man Gets A Dose Of Karma After Raping And Killing His Girlfriend’s Daughter

A 26-year-old man in California is accused of brutally raping, torturing and murdering his girlfriend's three-year-old daughter. Prosecutors say he will face the death penalty.

According to authorities, Christopher Cheary attacked and killed three-year-old Sophia Acosta in the apartment where they lived with her mother and younger sister.

The crime occurred while Sophia's mother Erika Smith was out buying drugs.

Cheary beat Sophia before sexually assaulting her with an object and raping her. He was convicted of first degree murder, rape and torture earlier after a two-month trial. Jurors recommended Cheary be sentenced to death.

Sophia's mom did not face criminal charges. She testified in the trial that she allowed Cheary to live with her family to try to help get him off heroin.

They began dating but he was abusive to her, she testified. The couple apparently had an argument before the incident, and she thought she could help make things better by buying him heroin.

The two of them then smoked the heroin before they heard a thump from the upstairs bedroom.
Sophia unconscious on the floor with vomit around her mouth. They put her in the bath, then called EMS. Paramedics arrived to find her soaking wet in the middle of the living room floor.
Sophia was eventually pronounced brain dead and taken off life support shortly thereafter.

One of the doctors who treated Sophia stated it was clear the little girl had been ‘tortured.'
