Man Found Frozen After Winter Storm, Miracle Happens When Father Says His Goodbyes

Justin Smith thought it would be a good idea to walk home during a winter storm. But he never made it. He was found unresponsive on a Pennsylvania road in below zero degree weather, and emergency responders thought all hope was lost. His face had turned blue and he had no pulse.

“We’re on a scene with a 25-year-old male who was found lying in a snowbank,” said paramedic Emmett Thomas in a recording, according to Little Things.. “All signs… lead us to believe he’s been dead for a considerable amount of time.”

His parents, who had been frantically searching for him, were devestated and the coroner was called. However, doctors at Lehigh Valley Hospital weren’t giving up. Dr. Gerald Coleman knew there was something else that could be done and he along with other doctors worked hard to bring him back to life.

Thankfully, Smith, who had severe hypothermia, didn’t suffer and damage to his organs. He did lose all of his fingers and toes.

“We may have witnessed a game changer in modern medicine — medicine moves forward in extraordinary cases,” said Coleman, according to Little Things. “His survival is a paradigm change in how we resuscitate and how we treat people that suffer from hypothermia.”
