Man Crawls Under SUV That Flipped Over 10 Times, Discovers Miracle Underneath

A man in the right place at the right time was able to stop and lend a hand when he watched another vehicle veer off the road and flip 10 times. When the good Samaritan got out of his car and rushed to assist, he and other witnesses feared the worst. What they found was a miracle.

Norman Augustinus, a writer from Manhattan, was driving through Michigan on I-75. He watched in horror as an SUV full of people veered off the road unexpectedly. He says it looked 'like someone fell asleep or had a medical thing'.

The SUV began flipping and rolling approximately 10 times, coming to a rest in the median. Augustinus says he could see bodies being flung from the car as it went.

People stopped and Augustinus was one of those who jumped out of their own vehicle to rush in. For a moment, the writer thought that it was going to be a major tragedy; but by some miracle, when he peered into the battered vehicle, he found children in there-- alive.

"I don't know how people lived," he said. "I didn't expect them to be alive."

The SUV was smoking and Augustinus worried that it might burst into flames or explode. He pulled one little boy out of the car, then he yanked another little girl out. He had to get a grip on her hair to free her from the vehicle.

"It was a brutal accident," the New Yorker said. "I pulled really hard to get the girl out, she was 5 or 6, I hope I didn't hurt her. I got a blonde boy out and an older man was trapped inside."

The one older man was trapped in the car; he, too, was alive, but glassy-eyed and in shock. He was pinned under the vehicle and the good Samaritans couldn't free him. They were just about to attempt lifting the car when emergency rescuers arrived. Firemen were able to free him.

Augustinus stood back when the rescue team arrived and snapped photos of the shocking scene. As shaken as he was, he was very happy that he could rush in and find survivors.

"I just wanted to help people and I surprised myself," he said. "I was pleased to do it. All my life I hoped I could help someone like this in some capacity.... Boy did that test me there."
