Man Arrested For Screaming 'White People Shouldn't Breed' After Spitting On Baby

Racial discrimination should never be tolerated, especially towards children. A recent case of racially motivated assault and abuse has sickened residents of South Shields, England after a man spat in the face of a 9-month-old child while screaming racial abuse. The culprit, a 33-year-old man named Vile Abdulla, was later arrested by police and brought before the Newcastle Crown Court.

The toddler, Layla-Jean, and her 25-year-old mother, Rebecca Telford were walking along Chichester Road when the man suddenly appeared. Abdulla proceeded to launch a completely unprovoked physical and verbal attack on the mother and her child. The Prosecutor, Emma Dowling, described the incident, saying: "He lent into the pushchair and spat into the face of her daughter. As he did so, he shouted or said 'white people shouldn't breed' then walked off."

After the horrifying incident, the outraged mother unsuccessfully attempted to get a photo of the attacker and subsequently contacted police. When completing a victim impact statement, Ms. Telford described the man as “spraying” saliva all over her child’s face, telling police that she was “completely disgusted and distressed that a grown man, regardless of race or religion, would spit on a defenseless baby in a completely unprovoked attack. If he had just walked by I would not have even noticed him, there was no eye contact and no words had been exchanged. I had never seen him before."

Fortunately, police were able to track down Abdulla using CCTV footage. After arresting and identifying the man, police discovered that he was suffering from bouts of schizophrenia and had been convicted of two other counts of racially motivated attacks against women.

When brought before the Newcastle Crown Court, the judge took note of Abdulla’s deteriorating mental condition and prior convictions, sentencing the man to 8 months imprisonment, 18 months suspension, and mental health treatment obligations.

After the incident, Ms. Telford took her daughter to the doctors for a check-up. Fortunately, no infections were passed on to Layla-Jean through the saliva but the horrifying situation has angered Ms. Telford, who told the Mirror that “South Shields is really multicultural, and I have never witnessed anything like this before, between any races...I am glad he has been brought to justice, but I think he has got off lightly. I am not racist at all but I honestly think if it was the other way round and I had been abusive towards him, then I would have been treated differently.” After writing about the incident on Facebook, Ms. Telford’s story quickly went viral, receiving over 3000 shares.
