Man Arrested After Store Employees Catch Him Doing Something With Loaf Of French Bread

A customer at a supermarket is facing charges for what he did with a loaf of bread.

The California Safeway customer was charged with assault and battery after beating a store employee with a baguette. The employee did not sustain any 'major injuries', but the scene was apparently ugly.

Officers in San Francisco were called to the Safeway near midnight on Sunday, September 17. When they arrived, they found an irate customer screaming at the employee.

According to the police report, 39-year-old Adam Kowarsh walked into the supermarket and was yelling and screaming. Several employees approached him and attempted to calm the customer down in order to get him to leave the establishment. One of the employees called the police.

Before police arrived, the customer grabbed a loaf of French bread and began 'pushing and hitting' an employee 'multiple times' with it. A baguette is a long, thin loaf of bread that has a very crispy crust, and the suspect used it like a bat. It is unclear if the bread was stale or fresh.

When police arrived, they first ordered the suspect to leave the store. When he refused, he was arrested. The store employee chose to press charges against him.

Kowarsh is in jail and has been charged with one count of battery and one count of probation violation. He's being held on $5,000 bail.

Kowarsh was on Facebook two days before the incident and posted long, incoherent rambles about his criminal history, dramatically blaming other people. In another post, he mentions that he is on medical marijuana.

“I'm 11 years off Hard Drugs. I'm a Medicinal Cannabis Patient since 1998. I drink a beer. I smoke Cigarettes. You Have NO RIGHT to me,” the suspect wrote in a September 15 post.

After a long list of people who he believes did him wrong to bring on his legal woes, he adds, “Every Authority committed fraud by refusing to obligate themselves to their Contract to the United States Constitution, and performed antithetically TO those contracts on behalf of a FOREIGN Interest, from Bullies in Elementary School through Highschool until NOW."

“I'm stuck with No Medicine because your Hired Accessories from Out Of State who violate the Tenth Amendment using Tax Resources from Outside California to Attack an ADA DoJ Disabled Complaintant; to wit Attacking California Cannabis Patient Adam Kowarsh.”

It’s a really good thing when Kowarsh allegedly lost control, he was near the bread section and not near canned goods or melons. He could have done a lot more damage.

If the scene sounds straight out of a Benny Hill show skit, it's because you've probably seen it before. At least, you've probably seen it on television. It's actually so common in fiction that there is a TV trope called the 'baguette beatdown'.

As it so often does, life imitates art. If you look up the baguette beatdown on YouTube, you'll find a lot of instances of real-live bread beatings. Most of them seem to occur between family and friends. In some cases, when the bread is stale, that wheaty weapon can pack quite a wallop.
