Lamborghini Gets Torched in New Orleans Riff Over Confederate Monuments

David Mahler is a contractor hired to remove Confederate monuments in New Orleans. Yet, he found his 2014 Lamborghini Huracan burned beyond recognition in a Baton Rough parking lot on Tuesday. The owner of H & O Investments recently announced he won't be removing four Confederate monuments after he received death threats.

In December, city officials voted 6-1 to take down four statues celebrating the Confederacy.

During a court hearing last Thursday, attorneys for the City of New Orleans said Mahler and employees at his company had received harassing phone calls about their monument removal contract. His $200,000 Lamborghini Huracan was pained red and white and called the "Psycho Hurricane."

When the car was found scorched, Eldon Ledoux, of the St. George Fire Department, said "This was a very exotic car, made of largely composite materials and in this case the paint on the fender didn't burn, the fender burned. The car was actually consumed by the fire, it added fuel to the fire."

In a Facebook post, Mahler's wife wrote, "This is just a possession and can always be replaced but someone has something to say to us."

Three preservation organizations and a New Orleans chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans filed a federal lawsuit challenging the city's plan.
