Katie Cassidy Reveals Her Late Dad's Heartbreaking Final Words

Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, tragedy struck the family of 1970s teen idol David Cassidy, as he passed away at the age of 67. Cassidy announced that he had been diagnosed with dementia earlier this year, and he was reportedly rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

He would pass away a few days later from organ failure. JoAnn Geffen, the star’s longtime publicist, confirmed his death with a heartfelt statement.

“On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long,” the statement read. “Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”

Tributes quickly poured in from across the world of entertainment, and Cassidy’s longtime fans flooded social media with well-wishes. Cassidy’s career in the world of entertainment spanned 50 years, but he still remains most well known for his role on ‘The Partridge Family’ that rocketed him to superstardom. Despite his many accomplishments, Cassidy left behind a touching reminder for those that loved him the most.

As the Huffington Post shares, actress Katie Cassidy has revealed her father’s final words in a touching post on social media.

“Words can’t express the solace our family’s received from all the love & support during this trying time. My father’s last words were 'So much wasted time'. This will be a daily reminder for me to share my gratitude with those I love as to never waste another minute....thank you,” she wrote.

Cassidy has followed her father’s lead and accomplished a great deal in her own right. She’s currently appearing on the television show ‘Arrow,’ while previous credits include roles on the hit shows “Gossip Girl” and “Melrose Place.”

Her father was a veritable sensation at the height of his fame, as his fan club was reportedly larger than that of both Elvis Presley and the Beatles. After his time as Keith Partridge came to a close, he would go on to tour the world and perform in a number of successful shows in Las Vegas. Fame was not without its pitfalls, as he struggled with alcohol abuse, went through many stints in rehab, and was arrested a number of times for driving under the influence.

He was forced to file bankruptcy in 2015, a year that also saw the dissolution of his 23-year marriage. After announcing his diagnosis, he said that he would be retiring at the end of the year. Cassidy offered up some thoughts at the time to People magazine.

“I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions,” he said. “I want to love. I want to enjoy life.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends, family, and loved ones of one of the most beloved stars of the 1970s.
