Kaepernick's Girlfriend In Hot Water For Controversial Tweet

There was a time when unemployed quarterback Colin Kaepernick appeared to be well on his way to being a transformative talent in the National Football League. That time is not now. Kaepernick’s skill set has been in decline for several years, and he’s acquired some baggage over the same time frame. That baggage stems from his insistence on kneeling or sitting for the national anthem as it was played before games last season.

Protests are all fine, well and good - as long as they’re conducted respectfully and without harming others - but Kaepernick kicked things up a notch by voicing a number of outrageous statements. In his mind, he was calling attention to police violence against African-Americans. In reality, he was increasing the divide even further. In any event, he found himself out of a job at the end of last season, as the San Francisco 49ers decided to move in a different direction.

The NFL regular season is around the corner, and training camps are in full swing. Kaepernick remains unemployed. This fact has led to an ungodly amount of speculation as to why that may be the case. The simple answer is that the 32 NFL franchises have a signal caller that they’re happy with. He could likely find work as a backup, but that would result in a dramatic pay cut compared to what he’s accustomed to.

As the Daily Mail shares, he was recently rumored to be a potential target of the Baltimore Ravens. The club’s quarterback, Joe Flacco, suffered an injury, and it was unclear at the time if he would miss an extended period of time. Ravens owner Steve Biscotti was asked about it directly. Here’s what he had to say.

“We've very sensitive to it and we're monitoring it, and we're still, as Ozzie said, scrimmaging it. So pray for us,” he said, in reference to the team’s general manager, Ozzie Newsome.

“Quantify hurting the brand. I know that we're going to upset some people, and I know that we're going to make people happy that we stood up for somebody that has the right to do what he did. Non-violent protesting is something that we have all embraced,” he added. “We've very sensitive to it and we're monitoring it, and we're still, as Ozzie said, scrimmaging it. So pray for us.”

That’s an honest and straightforward answer. Kaepernick rubbed a lot of folks the wrong way last year. Many of those folks buy tickets to NFL games. Any owner in any other organization would have similar thoughts. In fact, the only reason there’s even a discussion about it is because Kaepernick has a modicum of talent. Employees in other lines of work would not cause such a debate. They simply would remain unemployed if they engaged in outrageous behavior.

Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab, responded to Bisciotti’s comments with visual aids. She posted a photo of Biscotti being hugged by one of his precious players, and she placed that next to a photo of a scene from the movie ‘Django Unchained.’ Reading between the lines, the implication is that Biscotti is a slave owner. How edgy!

Or not. If Kaepernick is ever lucky enough to have the privilege of being compensated for tossing a ball and running, he’ll be paid handsomely. Slaves would not be. If Kaepernick - and his girlfriend - insist on calling attention to themselves, they shouldn’t be too surprised that his phone isn’t ringing. Before too long, we won’t have to waste so much time talking about a player whose skills have severely declined.
